Apr. 20th, 2025 12:09 amToday I am grateful for:
Not needing to go anywhere today.
I did feel lonely today, as I pretty much haven't seen other people in person for three days now.
I talked with Trainwreck, which ended up annoying me. She IS doing the right thing by trying to understand some of her current health issues, but it bothers me a lot when she says things like "I don't know why I have high blood pressure now. I've never had that before". Oh, I don't know. Maybe your body's organs are finally unable to keep up with the damage from forty years of hard drinking and smoking?
I hate it when she makes it like her health issues are a big mystery. Like, the doctors have no idea why this is happening! No one knows what this is!
And she's driving her car. The woman who was blacking out and falling flat on her face multiple times and said she couldn't walk down the hall to empty her garbage is somehow JUST FINE to get behind the wheel of a car just because she isn't drinking the last week or so (so she says).
When she was drunk, her blackouts had NOTHING TO DO with drinking. Now that she's (supposedly) "not drinking" the blackouts were entirely from drinking, and she's 100% fine now. No risk to anyone if she drives.
Well, moving on.
I cleaned the big canister filter for the turtle tank. It really has been a long time since I last did that. It was plenty gross. It's good to get that done. Much nicer for the turtle, I'm sure.
Spring always makes me feel like there are a thousand things that have to be done all at once, and it's true, but of course I'll never really get them all done fast enough.
I took all the old wet hay (it builds up outside the pony/goat pen gate from the small amounts lost every feeding time all winter) and dumped it in the bush. It took about four trips with the big sled.
Then I took a wheel barrow of manure to the compost pile.
Ursula and the goats got lots of time in their bigger pasture today, and Dandy visited with Wonder.
The garden is thawed enough to start digging and pulling out grass roots and dandelion roots. I worked at an edge of the garden that fills in with grass every year and has to be reclaimed every year. It's grueling work, but the texture of the garden soil is SO MUCH better than it used to be. We've added a lot of manure over the years, and it's much looser. It used to be almost solid clay, and would form huge blocks that wouldn't break up.
After that returned Dandy, but still chose to work with Wonder, though I was very ready to call it a day.
She did "leave" a bit today, but not dramatically. Just sort of walked away, which is an improvement over the panic she used to have when she felt like she needed to leave.
After a couple of "leaves", she stayed with me and we walked around the pasture together, and she was very sweet again.
I came in and talked with my Sweetie. The big family gathering was today, sort of about Easter, sort of a birthday party for him though it's early.
It sounds like a lot of his family came, and some of the younger ones that he doesn't always get to see. I'm glad they still get together like this, since they no longer have the big house of his grand parents to gather at.
He says they all very much liked the pottery I sent, and he showed them some of my recent painting efforts that he had on his phone and they admired those too. Nice to be appreciated.
It sounds like he had a great day seeing everyone.
I had a nice bath, which felt great after all the dirty work.
