May. 4th, 2025 10:48 pmToday I am grateful for:
A slow, lazy start to the day.
Once things got rolling, we got a few things done.
My Sweetie helped me get the first coat of paint on the kitchen walls. It's a lovely, energetic blue. I didn't realize it when I picked the paint out, but it looks like a retro 1950's kitchen now, which works well with the age of the house that is somewhere around 1950.
Then we did chores and such, and we both went to the barn.
My Sweetie brought his bike, and rode from the barn back to our place. His first ride of the summer.
I worked with River. There had been a Liberty Clinic earlier today, for kids mainly, and R used River in it (with my permission). I've seen some of the videos that R posted, and it looks like they had a lot of fun.
It's pretty cool, that all these kids can come to R's place and work with horses that are all so well trained in Liberty that they can get to experience it.
I mean, if they were training a horse to do Liberty, it would take them at least a year of steady work to be able to do what they got to experience with horses that were already trained.
River had reasonably good energy today, and we worked in the arena on elements of the freestyle, and then went outside to work on elements for the training level dressage test.
He's doing better at listening to my cues in the bigger outdoor arena. It's a big change, distraction-wise from working indoors.
I was really happy with him for staying still when I was unsteady in the stand today. Then I did it again to make sure I was getting myself properly grounded on him.
I chatted with K, a bit about the clinic (he worked with some of the kids today).
Then I came home, did a little work with Dandy, and MAYBE Wonder looked a little sore....so I got my Sweetie's help and we put up the electric fence that divides her already pretty small corral so that she will get almost no grass at all now.
This time of year, grass has a lot of sugar in it, and some horses can get a lot of inflammation from the sugar that creates damage and pain in their hooves.
Wonder was getting very little grass before we put up the fence, but if she's showing even a HINT of discomfort, I'm unwilling to take any chances.
As the summer progresses, I move the fence over bit by bit so that later in the summer when the grass is not really growing much, she can have the small corral back again, with short visits to the big pasture with a grazing mask on.
I feel sorry that she can't have more grass and more freedom, but it's necessary.
My Sweetie made supper, while that was cooking we folded and put away clothes, and by then he pretty much had to eat and go to bed.
Mom was moved again, from the hospital with only nurse practitioners looking after her back to a slightly larger hospital that has a doctor. I know that they are having issues with her being upset and taking out her IV, so I guess this is all related. She needs to be sedated in order to allow the IV to work, and she might need restraints. With her dementia, she's been very agitated and uncooperative, and they're having a tough time getting all of the antibiotics into her.
Sigh.
Again, I am trying to just accept that everything that can be done, is being done for her.

Date: 2025-05-07 07:29 am (UTC)She pulled through the surgery okay, though of course she had pain afterwards. So, now there's infection to worry about.
At the care home, you have to wonder who was looking after her incision, medication etc. for it to be infected, and apparently it was pretty inflamed when she was sent to a hospital to get it cleaned out.
So, hopefully this time she can stay in the hospital where she has the best chance of healing.
It's hard to just accept that she's getting the care she needs, and that's all that can be done.
