May. 27th, 2025 11:11 pmToday I am grateful for:
Talking with people today. Trainwreck, who seemed okay today, and my pottery friend, D.
Getting up in decent time, so that I could try to get something done. Being away for a week means a lot of things need to be caught up now.
It's hard to feel like I can really mourn properly, when everything pushes you to just "go back to normal". I feel like things shouldn't really be normal yet.
I did lots. I washed more clothes. I talked to my Sweetie about how to get this car port built, and he needed to talk with a building inspector, so I made an appointment for him with one.
I started quinoa for supper tonight.
I went outside and did chores, picked up a bunch of stuff around the yard that would interfere with mowing, and then I mowed.
I managed to get the whole yard mowed, which is great. If you wait too long, it can be very difficult to cut, and you have to go very slowly.
Then I went to see River, and my Sweetie met me there for a while (he needed to get home to go to sleep early. The current job schedule is brutal. He hasn't been able to go to the climbing gym or bike ride, or anything besides work and sleep.)
I talked with R for a while about Mom, and my week at home. I managed not to cry, but I think I'm really shut down about it right now.
River did well with the trotting more forward today, which is great. I know R worked on that with him while I was away.
Then we did some work on obstacles outside, and for whatever reason, he just "didn't know how" to back up today. So, I worked on him with that, leading to him shutting down because he hates repetition, and...sigh.
It was still nice to be working with him today.
Then I came home, ate (my Sweetie made supper), and he was already in bed.
I went back outside to work on the garden. We still need to pull the grass out before we can plant, and we're going to be behind. Yet, I think almost every year I plant late, because of my family gathering for May Long. The plants seem to catch up just fine.

Date: 2025-05-29 06:21 am (UTC)I have pickles and spinach in, and will probably get tomato seedlings soon. I'd like to try something odd, like loofah or long beans.

Date: 2025-05-29 06:29 pm (UTC)I do a bit of just about everything. Lettuce, chard, beans, peas, potatoes, zucchini, beets, carrots, cucumbers.
I don't bother with corn. I tried for several years, and it just doesn't seem to grow fast enough to finish with me. Others around here do fine with it.
I do also usually have a few tomato plants.
I have had strawberries, but it's impossible to keep the grass out of them. Until I go fully contained, I'm not going to bother.

Date: 2025-05-31 06:15 am (UTC)I'll look at the supermarket and garden shops to see what's for sale. The pickle vine seems to be doing ok.
