Today I am grateful for:

Last night I painted, and I was very happy with the picture.

Bright, sunny weather. It might be a bit hot, but it's nice to feel like we're having a real summer.

Nothing too pressing on the roster today, so I didn't do much before going to the barn. Just put away some clean dishes and got clothes together to do laundry later on.

I spoke with both Sister E and Trainwreck, and mostly we talked about Sister S.

Sister S is the one who had back surgery, and apparently things are really not well with her. The surgery didn't help much, and since her muscles were pretty weak before the surgery, and she wasn't supposed to do anything for about six weeks afterwards, she's struggling to walk.

She's in a lot of pain when she tries to do anything, and she's only walking short distances when her husband can help her.

Everyone has tried to get her to see a physiotherapist, as that's about the only thing left for her to try.

Well, everyone's a bit worried about her general ability to keep going like this. Her husband is very helpful, but he still works so he's not home all day.

Sister S probably could use assistance in the form of Homecare. They would help her shower and maybe do some laundry or the dishes, some food prep or cooking. As far as I understand, if Sister S did go to a physiotherapist, Homecare would make sure she was safe while she did the exercises.

It's possible that Sister S and her husband might need to consider moving to an apartment/condo so that they don't have to worry about a yard, parking outside in the winter, or exterior home maintenance.

Well, Trainwreck (who is a bit "born again" now that her health is a bit better) is thinking of visiting Sister S to get some idea of what her home life is like, and how she's really functioning.

I think it's a good idea. I feel like all my family talks about any more is how Sister S is doing, and everyone is very concerned. I told Trainwreck that this reminds me of how everyone started talking about Mom at a certain point. Over and over and over with "we're worried", but no one did anything.

It's time we started talking to Sister S about her situation in a way that isn't judging, but without blinking at how "real" things are getting for her. She could use some support from her adult son, who seems to be pretty much absent from her life. She maybe needs someone willing to help her clear out the stuff in the basement that is no longer needed, and would probably not go with her if she needs to move. She needs to let some of her ego go, to accept help in the form of Homecare and physiotherapy.

I do not minimize how awful her situation is. Being more or less unable to walk is terrifying and life changing. That said, the reality of what it means shouldn't be ignored.

Well, that made for a sobering day.

I went to the barn to see River for our lesson today.

His eye looked a lot better, he kept the fly mask on, so that's good.

It was hot and muggy, so he wasn't very peppy or responsive, so our lesson wasn't very demanding.

One very helpful thing came from me sort of working through with R what exactly the order of Liberty circles in terms of their difficulty looks like, and what should you be able to do to know that you are getting it right? How do you know when you are succeeding at doing them correctly, and if you are not, what do you do?

We basically created a flow chart, and I think it will prove to be very useful.

After our lesson, I worked with River for a while on my own, and by then he actually was perkier, so it was 15 minutes well spent.

R's husband K gave me a pie to take home for my Sweetie, because my Sweetie brought some heavy gloves for him from the work site that otherwise would have been thrown out. There's so much waste from construction sites.

Then I went home, and was happy to see that my Sweetie already let everyone out into their pastures, and was working on the electrical outlet by the septic tank. He got it all wired in, and we have to observe it for a while to make sure it's working.

I did have a small hand held vacuum (battery) start on it's own today, and would not shut off. I took it outside to let it drain its battery, but I have no idea if it's safe anymore.

After we ate (he cooked), I was able to go back outside in the cooler evening to work with Dandy and Wonder for a while.
