Aug. 18th, 2025 02:55 amToday I am grateful for:
Sleep.
A nice day today, weather wise. Warm but not too hot, bright and sunny.
I was a bit perturbed that my Sweetie thought he could just do nothing on the house today, given that our entire day yesterday and part of Friday for him was spent being with his cousin and her family. Weekends are our main time for getting ahead on things, and LAST weekend, he spent a large part of it doing work for our friends, not us.
No, he has to do SOMETHING.
When I got up he was like "yeah, I think I'll just go ride my bike today", and I was like "how about AFTER getting something done here at home?".
If I hadn't stepped in, he would have just taken off into the wild blue yonder for the day.
No.
I said, "how about something small but important, like PUTTING THE LAST STUPID STRIP OF SIDING UP ON THE HOUSE?".
There is literally ONE PIECE of siding that didn't get put up when the nephew and my husband were trying to finish the siding, and there was ONE PIECE that was a bit tricky, so it got left for "another day". It's been not finished for three weeks now. Since the job wasn't "finished", that meant that all the ladders and all the strips of siding and all the tools were still all sitting around the house outside, and could NOT be put away because the job wasn't done.
So, I said to my husband, get that ONE STUPID PIECE OF SIDING UP, and then put away all the ladders and all the bits and pieces of siding, and all the tools and so on, and clean it all up and FINISH IT. FINISH SOMETHING ALL THE WAY TO THE END!!!!
I did say it nicer than that, but I felt all of the caps inside.
So he did.
First, I got my Sweetie to put in a couple of proper picture hangers, since the glue tab ones didn't work. One must drill pilot holes in our walls first, so he did that, and did a much nicer job than I would have done.
Then I had to transfer the pictures from the damaged frames to the new ones, and then put them up. I felt like I had clawed back some of the entropy of them falling and getting wrecked a week ago, after I had put so much work in THEN trying to get some pictures on the wall.
Then he went to work outside.
While he did that, I did a bunch of cleaning inside. Virgo rage. I washed some floors, shook out the perpetually gross bath mat, did the dishes, started some laundry, and address "mount grossness" that the cats created around and somehow beneath the litter box. I changed the litter, washed the box and let it dry in the sun, swept and then scrubbed the floor around it, and then put it all back and filled it again.
When I went outside, we did chores, and then my husband was going to squirrel off into the distance, but once again I stopped him. We needed to put some more time into emptying the garden shed to move out stuff he had stored in there.
I could deal with the rest of it, as it was neutral garden tools or things I had in there, but he needs to be responsible for things that fall under his jurisdiction as I can't make decisions about them. He would also be too busy during the week to want to do it, so it had to be now.
He had two boxes of nostalgia that got moved to the other little shed, we moved the camping gear together, and he found a large tote full of various back packs and tote bags that most of it was very damaged by mice, so that is mostly going to the dump.
There was a pile of stuff that was there for no good reason too, other than no one felt like throwing it out.
There are quite a few fishing rods from...twenty years ago? I'm not going to fish, and he doesn't care about fishing, so those are going somewhere soon.
So some good progress was made there. I'm glad I insisted that he put in some time on it. It only took an hour, and now it's to the point where just about everything left in it is within my jurisdiction.
Then he went for his bike ride, and in spite of his worrying, there was lots of time for that.
I went to see River. He was in good shape bodily, and had decent energy. We did some good work today, with good focus.
I came home and my Sweetie had let everyone out, so we could bring them in again not long after I got home.
We ate and watched another episode of "The Silo". Good so far.
