Aug. 30th, 2025 01:39 amToday I am grateful for:
Sleep.
Then the day kind of got busy, pretty much the moment I woke up. This happens a lot when my husband is home, because he still gets up fairly early, does a bunch of stuff, then he drags me into his day forgetting that I am JUST GETTING UP.
He had gone to town and rented a hydraulic fence post pounder (we've used them several times) to fix the line of fence in Wonder's pen. She's oddly itchy this summer, and has been itching on the fence in her pen, to the point where she's pushing some of the posts over, and breaking some of the bolts holding the rails on.
She doesn't have anything that I can see going on with her skin, no lice or rashes or bumps, and she was dewormed this year. We've been trying to pull the weeds in her pen in case it's an allergy.
Anyhow, he gravely underestimated the amount of work the fence required, and when I woke up he said "he could use my help".
I went outside and he had basically taken the entire section of fence down on one side of her corral to rebuild it. Had to take all the rails off to remove the posts and re-pound all of them in new holes because so many of them were loose.
So, in the over 30 C heat, we did that for a couple of hours.
We did fix one or two other posts in our yard too, while we had the pounder.
Then I went to see River, and he went scooting along to help his friends move their furniture in the city.
River was pretty unenthusiastic about moving, which is WISE in this heat, so we worked on yields mostly.
I was happy for the BREAK of just working with River.
R said that her pony, Felix, had what looks like at least one broken tooth, so that will be looked at soon.
She also said they are trying a thyroid medication for Earl the ancient cat, to see if it helps him put on some weight.
Then I went home, had something to eat, bathed, and finished watching "King" with Robert Pattinson and Timothee Chalamet. While not terribly historically accurate, and a bit silly to think that it was realistic to have skinny Tim wrestle in the mud with big guys wearing armor and NOT dying, it was good. Pattinson was the best.
Eventually my Sweetie got home, exhausted.
Sleep.

Date: 2025-08-31 05:47 am (UTC)I'm not a "big" television/movie watcher, as in, I don't have the TV on all day in the background as white noise, nor do I binge watch a series for an entire weekend as I've heard some people like to do.
Generally after having "a day" of doing our normal chores etc. it's nice to sit down for an hour or so and just do nothing together after we eat.

Date: 2025-08-31 06:34 am (UTC)We finally got a reprieve from the dank and the steamy. It was warm today, but is nippy at night.

Date: 2025-08-31 06:45 am (UTC)I might start repainting the front porch steps, which will be fairly easy to prepare.

Date: 2025-08-31 07:18 am (UTC)Yet, that was needed, and required good effort.
As far as I understand, the materials for the outside buildings is to arrive this upcoming week, and if they do, the guys my husband wants to do the building can be here that weekend.
That will feel like drastic leaps forward.
Part of me wants to say "let's call up all the people you helped this summer and get them to come build these sheds", and I wonder why we aren't doing that.
Instead, we're paying people to build them.
My husband is capable of building these sheds, but again it's a time issue. Yet, if he had the help of myself and maybe three of the guys he's helped the most this summer, we could do it.
