Today I am grateful for:

Some sleep.

It was another scorcher, so we didn't do much today.

We stayed inside, and did one or two small cleaning things like laundry and dishes and cleaning the blades of the ceiling fan in our bedroom, and I washed a couple of doors.

After doing normal chores, we went to see River together.

River was of course, lethargic, but I'm glad his breathing seemed pretty good considering that we had an air quality warning. There was a fair amount of smoke and dust in the air today.

We focused on yields that didn't require a lot of forward movement, and that was about it. I did enjoy just being with him, and we had time, so I could take him to some nice grass in the yard and just let him eat for a while.

They do have grass in their pasture, but it's getting pretty chewed down, and a little dry after this week. The grass in some shady spots in the yard are pretty lush still.

Then we went home, got our gear together, and went to the park down the road for a bike ride once it was a bit cooler.

This is literally the first bike ride of the year for me, and it's frustrating that this has been the first ride. I used to ride my bike fairly often, years ago it was my main mode of transportation and entertainment, but especially since we have moved this house onto the property and I am more serious about sticking to a schedule for working with River, I end up just being too busy to ride a bike much.

My Sweetie takes bike riding pretty seriously, and he often rides his bike when I go to the barn, or on the weekend. He will often go for 20 km or more, and he's a lot better at riding than I am, both naturally and because he works at it.

So, I often feel a bit left out these days, that he wants to do "serious" rides all the time with his friend from the city, but doesn't seem to invite me for recreational rides anymore.

He seems to think that it's up to me to do all the work in instigating a ride together.

Well, at least we did go today. Other than struggling to mount this bike (the seat sits high because of the suspension, which is the perfect height when I'm seated, but not when I'm trying to get going) I think I did pretty well today for someone who had two rides last year and this is my first ride this year.

I think the exercises I've been doing for my back (focusing on core strength and glutes) helped with being solid when I pedal.

We went on a very nice trail, and the leaves are already falling a bit. Sigh.

On our way back home from the park, we saw a car on the side of the road with a flat tire, so we stopped to help them. My husband knows how to change a tire.

It was kind of scary though, to be doing that on the side of the highway at dusk, and I parked our car in a way that helped protect him while he worked on the tire, with the hazard lights on.

They were three young women, one young adult with her teen siblings. The tire was destroyed, and even their spare (only a donut) barely had any air in it. They didn't have far to go, but they wouldn't have made it on the donut, so they followed us to our place to put air in it, and they headed out. They did have family they could call if anything else happened, so I hope they made it.

Then we ate and watched "The Accountant 2". It was pretty bad compared to the first one. Very formulaic and unoriginal, and felt really "mailed in" compared to the uniqueness and subtlety of "The Accountant".

That said, if you haven't already, consider watching "The Accountant", it is literally one of my favorite movies of all time.
