Today I am grateful for:

Good sleep.

Getting a few little things done, like washing a duffel bag and a backpack rescued from the mouse infested shed. They were in a rubbermaid tub with a few other bags, but mice had gotten in there. The other bags were not salvageable, but these were untouched. They have been sitting in the hot sun for about two weeks to air them out (Hanta virus is gone after 72 hours), and today I washed them.

I did pick more garden beans, and I am amazed that the plants are still producing, given how dry it's been. We've only watered a bit the last couple of weeks.

I went to the barn for our lesson, and it ended up not being a super helpful lesson for River and I. Once again, R made this lesson more about another person's needs. Another rider who needs more practice riding with distractions around in the form of another horse, as if she were in a show. This person's normal lesson time would have been right before mine, and I don't know if she had that lesson too, or for some reason was very late but R didn't want to cancel her.

River and I just did things we already know how to do, like walk trot canter on the rail as if for a rail class, and practice a pattern that R is using for the show that is pretty straightforward.

We didn't get much coaching, nor did we need to work on the things we did.

Then the three of us went for a group trail ride around the property, which was at least something we don't get to do enough. That was nice.

So, I think R's way of making it up to me, is she's going to come to our place again for our next lesson, and help me with Dandy again. I know that when she does this, it takes her a lot more time, she stays longer, and I do really need more help with him.

So I guess it all works out.

I came home and helped my Sweetie for just a few minutes; he's taking down part of the quonset behind the garage to make room for the new shed we're putting there, but we need at least part of the quonset until it's built.

I picked several good sized zucchini. We have a TON of them already. Enough to last us all winter, if they could be stored properly, and there's more every day. We have no room to freeze them. I think we're going to have to get serious about giving these to everyone we know, and maybe even a few strangers who were just minding their own business.

My Mom always said, half jokingly half seriously to lock the truck doors when we went to town in the fall, because if we didn't we'd end up with either a box of zucchini or a box of kittens in it. People were always trying to give away both in the fall.

I did manage to work with Dandy, though it was pretty much dusk. If R is coming again for a lesson next week, we need to have made some progress, and have things we want specific help with. Today I long-lined Dandy, something we haven't done before other than R doing it last time, but with me leading him.

This time, I did it just like if I were behind him, driving him. I was cautious about being kicked, as Dandy can be feisty. He was pretty confused, because of all the Liberty work we've done where I emphasized him facing up to me and coming in, and walking behind him and moving him ahead was a very different task.

He did figure it out, and though it is rough, it's good progress for one session.

Then I came in and ate, and chatted a bit with my Sweetie before he headed to bed.
