Sep. 17th, 2025 11:41 pmToday I am grateful for:
Another lovely day, sunny and moderately warm. Very dry, though.
Getting good sleep.
Then when I look at my messages, there's the snippy texts from Trainwreck about me talking to Sister E about whether or not it is legal to just talk to a doctor to euthanize someone.
Well, it bothers me to have someone unhappy with me, but I suppose like everything else, that is also her choice.
I am not a villain for letting her know that unless her son and his father are going the legal route with this, they could be in trouble if it ever got out.
Moving on.
I did some laundry and folded other clean clothes, did normal chores and so on.
Then I went to see River.
He was in a good mood today. His breathing was okay, and he seemed content enough with life.
I got to say hello to the woman whose lessons are before ours, and she had her small Icelandic horse. He's a breeding stallion for her two mares, but he seems to have good manners. He's very cute and pony looking more than horse looking.
In our lesson we worked on the hindquarter yields in motion again, and tweaked how I ask for it. Also worked on diagonal yields on the ground.
We did a bit of mounted work before going over to a group of obstacles that R has that are sort of permanent fixtures in one part of the yard.
We recorded a "freestyle obstacle class" for an online competition. It's more or less choose six obstacles done in any order, and can be done to music. We did ours with just the neck rope, mounted. I'm not sure how to add music.
My Sweetie, who felt badly that we weren't going to have a ton of time together again tonight (he needs to get some sleep) dropped in at the barn on his way home, which I greatly appreciated. He only stayed a minute, but it was very thoughtful of him.
After the lesson, I was able to just spend some time with River, letting him graze in a nicer part of the yard (it's not part of their pasture).
Also, R's husband K wished me a belated birthday, in a very funny way (it's 37 this year, right? I'm super good at guessing ages).
For all that I am pretty sure I have different political views from R and her husband, they are both very nice people.
Then I went home and my Sweetie had let everyone out into their pastures, so I was able to bring them in.
We talked and caught up on each other's day for a while before he had to go to bed.
Movies I've watched in the last couple of days:
"Dog" with Channing Tatum. I was surprised by how good this was. I thought it would be super cheesy. It was about a war vet currently not deployed, who was assigned to take a service dog to it's handler's funeral. The dog was traumatized and considered dangerous, and was slated to be destroyed after the funeral, so this vet had to be very careful in handling the dog. You'll have to watch it, no more spoilers.
Read the trivia about it in IMDB, as it pertains to Channing's personal connection to the movie.
Tree of Life. Very beautiful visually, and though a bit woo woo, it's a fascinating way to look at a person's life. Sort of a nostalgic way of looking at childhood, and how our parents shape us.
The Midnight Sky, with George Clooney. This felt a lot like Gravity, with the whole "hold on to hope" thing, space stuff, and an imaginary friend. It was only okay. Gravity was a lot better.

Date: 2025-09-20 05:56 am (UTC)I can't always avoid it, and I did watch John Wick but I have to skip the part about his dog, and tell myself "it's fiction, it's fiction"...
I try not to watch sentimental stuff like "A Dog's Purpose" because it's just too manipulative, and ONLY watched "War Horse" because Joey didn't die, though it was a terribly difficult movie to watch. I've always had trouble with the reality that so many horses and dogs were killed in wars.
Anyhow, this movie is good, and if you watch it we can chat about it. Be reassured that the dog doesn't die, all is well.
