Today I am grateful for:

Doing okay with sleep, though the phone kept ringing with junk calls. I wonder who is selling my number now?

It's so strange that this phenomenon persists, though almost no one answers an unknown number any more.

I didn't do much with my day, other than normal chores and went to town for another dentist's appointment.

I got a nice birthday card in the mail from Sister L.

There was construction all around the dental clinic, and they didn't tell me ahead of time, so I couldn't park close to it, and I had to step over their low chain link fence in the back and walk around the building from behind to access their entrance.

You'd think that they could have done SOMETHING to make access easier? There are some people who would likely have just cancelled their appointment because of the inconvenience.

I feel like every time I've been to this clinic in the summer, the street around them is all torn up with construction. The hygienist mentioned this too, she says that the water pipes keep needing work. EVERY SUMMER.

For whatever reason, things were backed up, so I had to wait a while to start with my filling.

There was a young woman with her two young kids in the waiting area. She seemed very detached from her kids, and was completely immersed in her phone the entire time I was there. She barely reacted when her baby started screaming, and sort of plugged a bottle into it.

Her boy, who was maybe four or five years old, was playing with some fun "slime" stuff from Play doh, and was trying to get his Mom to play with him, but no dice.

He ended up getting me to play with him, and you know what? He was a sweet kid. We must have played for over half an hour. We were trying to stretch the slime into thin sheets on the table, then making long noodles, then we'd do this thing where I would hold one end of a noodle of it, and he'd hold the other, and I got him to back up very slowly to see how far it would stretch. I think we must have gotten a six foot noodle out of it.

I showed him that it would make a ball that would bounce, and that you could make a noodle of it into a bracelet, and on and on.

Another Mom came in with her little girl, who played with the boy a bit, but he kept coming back to me to do more.

When the dental assistant called my name, I stood up and said "see you later, dude!", and when we walked away the hygienist asked if that was my son.

I am 53. I suppose it's possible, but not likely. The boy's actual Mom was sitting in another seat the whole time barely looking at her kid, so I can see how no one might guess she was the actual mother.

Well, it was fun to play with a kid, and to just have fun with the slime. I hadn't seen it before, though I'm sure it's been around for a while.

I have to say, this is a very noisy clinic. There were two television screens in my "room", but since the "room" is just sort of divided off like a cubicle, you can hear everything happening in the other room next to it, and the music in another part, and all the noise of the kids in the waiting area, and then there was the construction.

By the time they finally started drilling, it was nice to have just one main noise to focus upon.

They ended up only doing one filling today, even though I made a point of trying to book enough time to do two...whatever. It just sucks that I have to come in AGAIN, and have my face frozen AGAIN.

Thursdays are kind of my "day off", and the last three weeks I've been using it to go to the dentist, and will have to do so at least one more time. For whatever reason, they haven't been wanting to clean my teeth either, though I've asked.

Several other occasions they cleaned my teeth, then did the filling or what have you. I'm wondering if they benefit in any way from forcing you to come several times, instead of having more things done in one appointment. Like they get paid an additional fee each time.

Afterwards I went to Micheal's, to check out the big "60% off sale". No joke, lots of stuff on sixty percent off. I make beaded necklaces, so I got some bead strands. There was also a buy one get one half off on the nice watercolors, so I got two small tubes.

Then I headed home.

My Sweetie let everyone out into their pastures, and after we chatted a bit I went outside to bring them back in.

I was just able to squeeze in half an hour of work with Dandy. We did the long-line work again, and he is doing great. He wasn't swinging around to face me much today, I was able to work him without the grazing muzzle, and after a few butt taps he gave up trying to eat while we were working. He is doing better with the steering, and I was able to guide him around the pylons.

I had to work with him a bit on halting nicely, and not swinging around to face me when I asked for the halt, and made progress there. He even backed up nicely.

What a smart little pony.

Then I came in after putting everyone back, and ate (thanks, Sweetie) and we chatted some more about our day, and looked at things to do this weekend since we were unable to do anything for my birthday last weekend.

We found a live show of a "jazz fusion" group in a venue not far from us. They're an unknown quantity to us, but the tickets were pretty reasonable, and wot the 'ell.

I had hoped to kayak in the river that goes through the city again, but the times weren't going to work for us. We may try next weekend, we'll see.

I usually get a birthday "event" sometime within the calendar year, not usually on the day. It can feel like an afterthought or something to get out of the way, and I'd rather have something happen right on the birthday. The sous chef and I went for dinner this year, and all the denizens wrapped a gift instead of handing it to me in its mailing envelope. There was cake with candles. A decent effort.
