Today I am grateful for:

Good sleep.

Feeling less congested. Finally. I hate being forced to breathe through my mouth.

I did some tidying and putting things away. I hand washed the nice dress I wore to the wedding after party last weekend. I wiped the layer of grey sludge off of my dresser. I guess it's having animals, but it only takes a short while for another layer to form. It makes it look like I never dust.

Seriously, we have to wipe the blades of our ceiling fans several times a year to get the layer of felt off of them.

My Sweetie got up earlier to work on the pottery studio with the help of Dan, the weekend carpenter.

The pottery shed originally had just a pair of big, loose doors. Not anything that would "seal" so that we could heat the shed or keep out mice. My husband bought a good used door that has a big window insert in it, and a window beside it, with the door frame. So they had to remove the old doors and part of the wall to fit the new frame/door. They got that done today.

They also laid the new insulation in the floor, and laid plywood on that.

They also had to put some proper studs that are the right depth so we can insulate the walls correctly. The other studs are not wide enough.

LOTS of work got done today!

I really like this carpenter, his name is Dan. He and his wife (that I haven't met) are from Australia, applying for citizenship. No idea why, though. Australia is a pretty great country.

I like that he has good manners (he said "thank you" every time I passed him another stud for the wall) and while he seems pretty good at his job, he isn't trying to take my husband down a peg like the one contracter did.

The one contractor, John, that did all the work in the basement was good at his job, but to the point where he was arrogant, and you know what? He wasn't THAT good. My husband had to go back and fix some of his work, and had to talk to John about that, and it really put John's nose out of joint. I also think John resented having to take orders from me (a woman) because my husband worked so much.

The guy working with us now feels a lot like working with our friends, which makes sense because he IS a friend of one of our work friends.

I'm REALLY HOPING that my husband will keep getting Dan to come back and continue working on things, because my husband can work WITH him, and that motivates him. This feels better to my husband, I think, than just hiring someone to do the work on the house while he's at his job.

I was really pleased with how it's coming along.

Dan was unfamiliar with the Canadian customary gift of zucchini/squash, so we were able to give him three nice spaghetti squash. I hope he and his wife enjoy them.

As I mentioned, I did help for a while, not long, and then I worked with Dandy.

Dandy did really well today. I long-lined him in the big pasture again, once each way, and he's understanding that better.

Then I was able to get him into the shafts of the cart, and just "looped" around the shafts, not hard-connected to the cart, so that should he panic I could easily release him. I walked him around the pasture once each way with the cart and he was pretty comfortable with it today. No ear pinning or grinding his teeth or any of his stress indicators.

I'm doing my best to make it all comfortable and low stress for him. I would rather take months to do this ground work than give him a bad experience.

Then I went to see River. He seemed very relaxed, almost sleepy again today. Sometimes it's hard to get a good quality of work with him when he's like this, but I almost hate to "wake him up" because it's pleasant to work with him like this.

For all that he was sleepy, he responded fairly lightly to the cues today.

It was nice to just be able to be so present with him, and enjoy the nice weather.

Earl the ancient mariner cat is looking a bit better with the medication he's getting, but he is HUNGRY all the time now. R seems fine if I feed him when I'm there, and it's hard not to do so. He follows you around and howls the whole time.

I've been needing to close him into the tack room because he just follows me around, and I'm worried that he'll get stepped on. I let him out when I'm done. Even if I forgot, he'd be okay, as the tack room is where their water and litter box is (not that they normally NEED a litter box since they go outside).

Then I came home, and made supper while my Sweetie had a bath.

We chatted before he headed to bed.
