Turning what began as some frustration into a decent day in the city. We started out with the good intentions of taking a trailer full of steel to be recycled to the scrap dealer, and then we were going to pick up the lawn mower. Well, the scrap dealer didn't want our load (like, wtf dude, you're a scrap dealer), and the other nearby place was closed Saturday. So we couldn't empty the trailer to get the lawn mower, which didn't matter because the lawn mower place was closed early on Saturday (my husband didn't check their hours). So, the whole point of driving over an hour to the city was totally blown.
What we did, was do some of the fun things we were hoping to have time to do anyhow. We had supper at one of our favorite places, and I tried their Thai peanut tofu dish, which was amazing. I always get a little buzzed on their coffee too, they must do something different because it has a rocket fuel level of caffeine in it.
I got to go to the bead/rock store, and found some fun beads. There's some amazing hand made glass beads in display units that are SORT OF for sale, that we ended up not being happy with the prices, but we might be able to work something out. It's a funny situation; the owner of the store is the collector of these items and displays them at the store, the co-owners of the store are her kids, and they want her to start selling them, so the kids might get back to me with different prices because they WANT them to sell.
We went to Ikea to get some simple wooden shelves, because I have the one bedroom upstairs full of clothes, sheets, towels, blankets, shoes, and so on, but there aren't any closets or anything in this house to organise those items. I have to get them off the floor somehow, so I can find things and use them.
Ikea was fun. We weren't in a hurry, and we spent some time looking at sofas and rugs; things we are maybe buying in a few months if we're lucky and everything falls into place. I sort of joined in on a conversation a couple of guys were having; they were looking at the sheepskins and I couldn't resist talking to them about how nice and soft they were and so on. We chatted for awhile. Later, one of the same guys came up to us again, and sort of thanked us for being so nice and friendly. I think they might have been fairly new to Canada, and they were so amazed that strangers would start a conversation. I'm glad to carry on the proud tradition of Canadians being nice.
This day in the city was for my birthday, since my sweetie has to work on the basement more tomorrow.
