Today I am grateful for:

Good sleep.

Waking to sweet animals.

I washed the carrots I picked yesterday, and let them dry before putting them in the fridge.

I had to organize the fridge and clean a bit before I had space for the carrots.

It it nice to get such a good harvest of carrots. They taste very different from the ones in the store, a lot more "fennel".

I did more laundry, cleaned in the bathroom, did a water exchange for the turtle, put clean dishes away.

I did let everyone out into their pastures, and spent some time with Roxy just sitting with the goats and Ursula.

Here we are, in a pretty rural area, and it was NOT peaceful. Some neighbors that are not "near" us, a mile or two away...they move cattle now and then. Today the guy came to close the gates at the end of our lane so they wouldn't come into our yard, which is fine. I didn't see them moving the cattle, but they did drive by with a tractor, and then a truck with a stock trailer.

There were trucks just roaring up and down our road, no idea why. Back and forth. Another truck with a load of bales goes roaring past, far too fast for a gravel road and a big trailer of bales. He wouldn't have been able to stop for anything.

Then there were hunters in the field across the road from us just blasting away at the geese, for whatever reason they fire off ten rounds at a time. If you can't hit a goose in the first shot or two, maybe that's what you need to work on, not how to fire off more rounds. I wonder how many he's just wounding.

Well, by then I gave up on having a peaceful time with the animals. Sigh.

I briefly talked with Trainwreck, just long enough to know she's spending time with her sons over the weekend, which is nice.

I went to the barn to see River, and I saw R and her family.

River was in a good mood, a bit sleepy at first, so I added a lot more positive energy to try to shake things up a bit and have some fun. I'm really wanting to make our communication good enough that we can be more like dance partners.

Then I saw the kittens, but they are SO SMALL, and still not very smart about things, so it's kind of scary.

They are in a nice loft in the upstairs of the barn, and they know that a person is coming now when they hear you on the stairs, so they are already right at the door to the room when you open it, so I had to stop them from falling down the stairs.

Then, when I was trying to leave, it was terrifying because they were trying to push through the gap in the door when I tried to close it.

I had to take them back into the room and set them by their food dishes, and make a run for it.

They are adorable, and the PURRING! They're so affectionate at this age, if they've been socialized.

It's a bit hard to love little barn cats though, because even though these little guys are going to be given a very good chance at a long life, with a warm barn and lots of food and vet care, they still have to be mousers, and until they are smarter about horses, and cars, and coyotes, and so on...sigh.

You just never know how they'll do.

I came home and made supper, and talked with my Sweetie about his day (we talked earlier too), and it sounds like things are going well. Tomorrow is the family supper.

I texted a bit with our friend from Wyoming, and tried to clarify a few things. I was kind of hoping that he would give me some idea of what he and his wife would like to see or do since this is their vacation, but he's kind of letting me make all the suggestions. I thought this was a bit odd.

Well, hopefully we manage to find something they enjoy.

Then I lucked out and found Season One of Peaky Blinders on YouTube, and watched a few episodes. We don't have a streaming service, and it isn't easy for me to watch some shows.

Wow, is it ever engaging! I have no idea if I can ever find all six seasons, but it's good so far.

I don't have much luck growing carrots in this garden. I tried Nantes and Oxheart varieties, to no avail. Few vegetables grew well or at all this year, in spite of the heat.

The best carrots come from Bradford at this time of year. They are crisp, round-ended and sweet. I try to eat one a day - not enough to turn orange.
