Today I am grateful for:

Decent sleep.

Nice temperature, and sunny. I would love it if it rained.

I did a bit more water changing on the turtle tank. It hasn't been eating a lot (because of season change?) so the water has been getting kind of gross. The last couple of days I've been doing water exchange to clean it up.

I found some gross squash that needed to be taken outside. You lose a few that I guess might have been a bit bruised or something when they got brought in.

I did normal chores and such.

Then I went to the barn for our lesson.

We worked with ground work with River for part of the lesson, and for the second half of the lesson, we worked on a lesson in DRIVING, with R's lovely hackney pony, Felix.

She went over harnessing correctly with me, which is good because her harness is a little different from mine. Exposure to different styles of harness is a good thing.

She handled Felix for the first pass around the outdoor arena, and I took over from there.

Felix is a pro, he's shown a lot, the been there done that pony, and he was wonderful to drive. He needed very little correction and turned with very light cues. He has a wonderful forward trot, and just lovely.

It was a very nice evening too, cool but not cold, and the golden light.

I was very happy to have an opportunity to work with such a great pony.

Then as I was getting ready to leave, the next rider came, and she is a teenager that I interact with regularly because of her lesson coming after mine...she needed some help getting ready for her Halloween costume.

It's for the barn only, but to enter you record the rider and horse in costume walking around the arena and then halting, and enter the video.

I helped her braid the mane of her lesson horse, and do some decoration. He was a unicorn, and she had a lot of glitter stickers (because the barn doesn't want people using glitter powder anymore, for obvious reasons) and colorful yarn to braid into his mane and tail.

I was NOT PREPARED for her half of the costume! She had this crazy inflated dragon costume with wings and everything. It is a "suit", but it actually has a fan and it inflates with the person inside....didn't know they had those.

Well, she RODE THE HORSE WITH THAT SUIT ON!!!! The horse did great, they had been practicing in her last lesson to make sure he would be okay, but this is amazing stuff!

Not many horses would tolerate something like that.

So that was a pretty cool time at the barn today.

I came home, my Sweetie had been outside mowing in the horse pasture when he got home from work (since our animals can't be on grass a lot, they don't eat it down, it gets very long, and you have to cut it or it gets to be a real mess year after year). He got in the house just before I got home, and started supper.

We ate and chatted a bit.
