Oct. 22nd, 2025 12:24 amToday I am grateful for:
Good sleep.
A rather lovely, though still dry day today. Warm and sunny.
I got ambitious today about food, wanting to try to make supper before I left for the barn.
I don't enjoy coming home from the barn and finding that my Sweetie hasn't started on it. I'm already pretty hungry by then, and having to then make supper is less than optimal. Yet, I can't EXPECT my husband to come home and right away start cooking either, if he doesn't feel like it. He's the one who worked all day.
Anyhow, I made quinoa, and roasted sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, zucchini and onions. It will be enough hopefully for tonight and tomorrow, so I don't have to worry about supper after my riding lesson.
Then I did up all the dishes.
I also changed sheets and washed the ones I took off the bed.
I also talked with my husband and made an appointment with the physiotherapy clinic that I went to for this Friday. Really, I shouldn't have to do that for him.
I'm trying to get him to find a way to get that replacement window. Can you believe that another entire summer has gone by without it being fixed? The window is THERE waiting for him to go pick it up, but it's not convenient for him....sigh.
Then I went outside and put everyone out in their pastures for a while.
It was so nice outside, I found a nice spot in the horse pasture and stretched out. Dandy has never seen me lying down, so he came and checked me out to make sure I was okay.
Roxy had a nice time sniffing around doing dog things in the pasture too.
I talked with Trainwreck for a while, and she sounded good. She's signed up for a pottery class, and talking about all the other community arts things she could join. It's amazing. I tried talking to her about that kind of thing last winter, and she was unwilling to go into the community to find anything to do, and ended up rotting in her apartment, depressed and sick all winter. I really hope she gets to do something enjoyable with her time this year.
Then I fed everyone, and headed to the barn. My Sweetie met me there on his way home from work.
K, R's husband, is all worked up because they are having trouble with the boiler that heats the horse barn. He's likely doing everything right, it's just frustrating and a little scary to have to sort it out this time of year. He's very capable though, and likely it will work out fine.
The horse blankets are back from being washed, and they look very nice. I left some of River's at the barn, since we're not long from needing them, and took the rest home because they are for Wonder.
So, all factors led to eating up a fair amount of my ride time, and I had about forty minutes before the lesson person showed up.
It was a bit short, but maybe not the worst thing for me to focus and just get it done. I can sometimes get overly focused and repetitive otherwise.
River did well, and his energy seemed okay. Again, his challenge is to be forward without me needing to keep after him.
Then I spent a bit of time with the sweet kittens upstairs. I really worry about their transition to being full barn cats, since there are so many hazards, like horses and cars and coyotes and owls outside.
I know a lot of our kittens didn't make it, when I was a kid on the farm. That's why I won't let our cats be outside at all.
I came home and GUESS WHAT? I didn't have to wonder if I had to make supper or not! My husband ate when he got home (he didn't stay for my session), and he was able to get to bed slightly earlier than usual.
