Today I am grateful for:

Good sleep.

I talked with a niece today, I don't usually talk to her that much, though we do at family gatherings.

I had heard that she recently had gall bladder surgery, so I wanted to see how she's doing.

We talked for quite a while, I think she's a bit bored. She normally works, but she has time off to heal. She also can't drive or go do things on her own because she has seizures (from a car accident a few years ago).

The seizures affect her life more than I realized. She can't drive, which limits her work options. She is a nurse's aide, and would like to progress but cannot, also from her seizures. Basically any responsible job is off limits for her.

She doesn't go out alone, and doesn't walk anywhere alone, or go swimming, or ride a bike, etc.

It sounds like it really sucks.

I know she lives with her Mom (this niece is in her mid 20's and has a child), again, she doesn't want to live alone.

She would like to travel a bit, so again, she needs to do it with her Mom for safety.

I guess I hadn't realized the implications.

She's had testing and such on her brain patterns, but during the two week period of monitoring she didn't have any seizures so they couldn't make any plans for surgery or anything.

It was nice talking to her, though I feel like for a young woman, she's already been through a lot.

Then I did chores, and it was still hovering at zero, so the snowfall was slushy.

I walked around the pasture with Roxy a few times, and enjoyed the nice Christmas lights my Sweetie put up.

I do find it difficult to deal with the short days, and my sleep schedule makes them seem VERY short.

I came in, did the dishes, made some prep for supper, did some laundry, and had a bath.

My Sweetie came home and we made supper and watched more of "The White Lotus", which this season especially just seems like "rich people making very bad choices".

It's nice that your Christmas lights went up nice and early, before the bitter cold arrived. We missed that window. It's -12˚C here.

I'm sorry to hear what your niece is going through, I hope they can find any way to make her life more independent. I'm glad you got to speak with her and I'm sure it helped to have someone else hear what she's going through and feel less alone for it.
