Today I am grateful for:

Decent sleep.
I spoke with Trainwreck for a while, and at least she didn't sound like she'd been drinking. She still talked as if I wasn't there, just a long stream of consciousness about whatever she wanted to talk about. She did at least sound like she was keen to continue doing pottery at their local craft center, which is positive.

She's also still determined to find another apartment to live in, which I don't think is a good idea for her. The one she's in is sort of public housing, so rent controlled, and likely clean and well maintained, even if it's small and very basic.

The moment she goes somewhere else, it's likely going to be an emotional decision based on something like it having access to a yard (which will become a space to hoard things) or a patio (ditto) and it won't have all the "bed bug checks" and so on that are more about making sure people aren't piling crap to the ceilings or leaving food garbage everywhere, or doing drugs or some other violation of the rules of the building.

Those checks keep her from letting things get really bad, because whenever they're having one, she cleans things up, or gets one of her sons to come help her throw things out.

Without them, she would likely get quite bad again.

Whatever.

That we at least have some warning that there will be the possibility of a big dump of snow tomorrow.

I wonder though, the weather forecasters get things so blown out of proportion (every snowfall is a "snow warning", and every storm is a huge deal, even a bit of fog is a "fog warning") that people get really worried about fairly ordinary weather.

I wonder if they will lose some credibility, and it will be hard to tell when something SERIOUS is on it's way.

Anyhow, I wanted to be prepared for snowfall.

So I did normal chores, but also made sure I knew where Wonder's heavier blanket was, and brought extra fire wood up to the house.

I was a bit frustrated to note that most of the firewood that my Sweetie brought up yesterday was actually some very green wood that was only cut this year. You can't burn green wood, as it creates a lot of creosote.

When he cut a few trees in our yard this fall, from the looks of things he just stacked it right on top of our seasoned wood. Why would he do that?

I mentioned it to my husband in the evening, he was like "it's had since September to dry out". Keeping in mind that it's been frozen for the last couple of months, so not drying out at all.

No. Wood needs to dry for at least a YEAR, and you'd think he knew that.

So that was frustrating. I had to take a half full sled of wood BACK to the shed and dump it out, and fill it with seasoned wood. There's also some of the green wood in the basement, where he took it yesterday, and was undoubtedly burning some of it.

Sigh.

R texted, asking if I would like to have my riding lesson tonight instead of tomorrow, in case the weather is bad enough that I won't want to drive (plus R will have extra work if there's a heavy snow).

So we did that.

It was a good lesson, reminding me of more fundamentals that I need to drill into my head/body memory. River did really well, with lots of focus and good energy.

I also got two gifts from R, one was a very thoughtful small metal sign (a friend of theirs makes things like that for a business) that said "Pottery Studio", to hang in ours. The second gift was a wooden tree ornament of a horse's butt, with a little tail made with River's actual hair. It was painted to look like River.

I thought both gifts were very thoughtful and personal.

I came home and put Dandy back with Ursula and the goats; I had given him some extra time to be with Wonder today.

My Sweetie had supper ready (Yay!) and we ate and chatted for a bit before he headed to bed.

He's likely going to work tomorrow, unless it is already storming heavily when he gets up. That makes me concerned that the storm will hit when he's in the city. I would rather NOT have him trying to drive home in something like that, nor would I want him to end up being storm-stayed.

Yet, you can't just stay home from work if there's an iffy weather forecast.

Sorry to hear if they're frustrations in your day! But I'm glad the gifts for both thoughtful and personal and that supper was ready. :) that reminds me I need to go take a nap but maybe I have to prepare a warm cozy supper for me when I get up as well.

Wishing you a good night and a good day ahead!

Those are nice, thoughtful gifts - especially the little sign.

Mungo wound up giving my stern ballet mistress a small bottle of good gin and miniature cucumbers for it - she likes those.
The pianist always plays Schubert for me. He received a stoneware mug with a PC ginger-scented candle in it.
