Today I am grateful for:

Getting up on time for our brunch with friends in the city.

That meant not much sleep for me.

Nice that my Sweetie helped by doing chores and such.

Frustrating that because my Sweetie was SO HELPFUL by offering to take all my stuff to the car for me, we overlooked the fact that my phone was still in the house. I noticed when we were about halfway to the city.

I choked back most of my frustration and vowed to "be nice" anyhow.

The gathering was very nice indeed. The fellow hosting is one of our "house help" friends, and I see him when he comes out to our place to work. I rarely see his wife, even though she is a lovely person and I hinted that she could come out to our place for a visit at some point again, and I could show her all the things her husband helped build.

One of the things that I like, is that their home is an older farm house (yes, now in the city) like ours, and has the same feel and quirks. It's wonderful but feels like a home where people live, not a show home. Their kids' craft materials were all in part of the living room, there are books, a partly done puzzle sitting out, and a wonderful array of old furniture.

We had a very nice meal together. The quinoa salad I made last night and brought along was well-received and enjoyed. There were other things there that I could eat, and wonderful conversation.

The Ukrainian couple that was there last year (they were brand new immigrants to Canada, and pretty unsettled from events in their home country of Ukraine), and it was nice to see them looking more settled and at home.

I spent some time petting their lovely dog, and their new six month old Bengal kitty, who was super chill and sweet.

Afterwards, we drove to the barn, and it was nice that we didn't forget anything I needed for that.

River was a tad hangry, as they hadn't been fed yet (my ride times are pretty much right when they are about to be fed, and I often take him out just as the hay is thrown, which is pretty unfair but there's not much to be done about that). I did give him some time in the barn to eat hay before we went to the arena.

He did quite well today, pretty focused and forward. He was a bit racy in the trot to the right when I rode, but only for a little while.

It was still lovely and only just below freezing, so a very nice temperature for riding.

Then we headed home.

By the time we got home, I needed to eat something again, so I did that and we watched a very fun, old time Disney movie called "Blackbeard's Ghost" with Sir Peter Ustinov as a zany Blackbeard.
