Jan. 3rd, 2026 02:57 amToday I am grateful for:
Decent sleep.
Time with my Sweetie before facing the day (not that it's so bad).
I like it when he makes me breakfast, which he has done for most of his days off over the holidays.
He also usually does the first feeding of the indoor animals so that I can sleep in.
He headed off into the wild blue yonder to get a hair cut, then to the climbing gym.
I talked with Sister E (sort of). I let her talk at length about having a bit of a fall recently. Ten minutes without pause. Then she talked about her new massage therapist, how she didn't like her former one, how hard it is to be a massage therapist, and so on. Finally it occurred to her to ask what I'd been up to. For perhaps five minutes I spoke about having supper with our friends in the city, and she promptly said "well, I have to go. My phone is about to die".
I wonder how she'd react if the next time I called (because she also doesn't initiate conversations) if I said "this time we're starting with my topic, I get ten minutes, then it's your turn for ten minutes".
After doing chores (reasonably cold today, around -15 C, supposed to get colder tomorrow) I carefully headed out to the riding barn. The gravel roads were okay, the highway was slippery.
R was around, we chatted. As it turns out, the young woman with challenges was coming for her lesson tonight; I thought she wasn't starting lessons up until next week.
I worked with River, he did well. Good energy and focus. Improvement in his canter circles at Liberty, still pulling during ridden work (he wants to drift to the wall on the right lead).
Then the young woman arrived for her lesson. She looked tired and cold. I know she's been sick a bit this winter, and I wonder if she's been doing much of anything for exercise in the last few weeks.
I worked with pokey little Poppy, who has been experiencing some kind of discomfort with being touched on her sides. R is treating her for potential ulcers, but it could be something else, or emotional issues.
We didn't stay out in the arena long, the young woman's hands got cold quickly, so they went upstairs to see the kittens, and I finished putting River's blanket on and putting my things away, and blanketed Poppy and started cleaning up the barn for the night.
R and I chatted a bit.
I headed home and my Sweetie was just home too. He made me something to eat (he ate in the city) and we watched an older film called "21", about card counting university students. We've watched it before, but it's been years.
It has Kevin Spacey in it, and he's a great actor, but somehow he always did feel off somehow. Just a bit creepy. It's probably something that worked for him as an actor, as many of his roles were "sketchy" types.
