Jan. 13th, 2026 01:45 amToday I am grateful for:
Decent sleep.
That R was willing to change River's blanket to his lightest sheet, since I didn't realize it would be so warm today (I should have changed it yesterday but did not).
It was about plus 5 C, so everything was melting. I would once have thought the swings in temperature were weird, but it's been like this now for a few years. Just big, wild, swings from -30 C to above freezing.
Oh well. Enjoy it.
I went to town for pottery class, trying not to be too pessimistic about the things I had glazed last week, only to have D text me and say that it looked like the commercial glaze was flaking off (so she took it off of the glaze cart).
The mugs that had a single stripe of the commercial glaze over a studio glaze were flaking, but all I had to do was take it all off, and the rest of the mugs looked okay. I put a bit of another studio glaze on the spot where the commercial glaze had been, and it should be fine.
The glaze on parts of the teapot looked like it was stable, so I'll leave it. I did have to rinse all the glaze off of the teapot lid, and I'll have to do something with it next week when it's dry again.
Then I glazed another vase, and partly glazed another one.
I talked with the craft center's new Vice President, who is in our Monday afternoon pottery class, and she seems to align with those of us who would like to set appropriate boundaries and controls for S's power mongering.
I don't know how much of an effect she can have, but it's nice to see someone else who refuses to drink the cool-aid.
As I was wrapping up to leave, a newer potter came in and we talked. She is ANOTHER so-called graduate of S's beginner pottery class who has come away with no confidence and few skills. I offered to help her with the wheel if she wants to come in before I leave on Mondays.
Three mugs were back from being glaze fired, and two were pretty good. The third one, the glaze was a mess. I don't know if that was something I did, or something wrong with the firing.
Then I went to get groceries, and I am very grateful to be able to do so.
Then I went to D's place, since she had more things to go along with the kiln and wheel and glazes etc. that we bought from her. It was a few more boxes with glaze materials and some odds and ends. I was barely able to squeeze it into the car, since I live with my horse stuff in the back, and I had just gotten groceries, as well as bringing home some things from the studio.
Then I came home, and with my Sweetie's help we took all the stuff from D out to the pottery studio, and then brought in all the groceries and put them away.
Then he had to go to bed right away.

Date: 2026-01-13 08:56 pm (UTC)His job starts very early in the day because they work longer than eight hours (hence also having Friday off).
He gets up at quarter to five, so he pretty much has to be in bed by 9 to function, though 8 pm would be better.

Date: 2026-01-14 08:26 am (UTC)Not necessarily as an aggressive/protection from invaders thing, but even so that one person stayed up to keep the fire going, or to notice anything going on outside, or to be the one to rock someone's baby to sleep, to tend someone else who was ill.
Humanity seems to do better with people with different skill sets and abilities if they work together.
It's tough to function in a society of conformity as a night owl.
My Sweetie is not by any means a natural early bird. His natural sleep cycle would probably be more along the lines of going to bed at midnight and getting up around 8 or 9.
There was a stretch of time off that he had earlier this year where I was getting a bit worried for him because he was sleeping in excess of ten hours a night.
