18. Describe 5 things you want to see or do before it’s too late.
Just travel in general. I'd like to see the Great Barrier Reef, and walk in a rainforest. I've always wanted to do horse riding tours, like ride in Mongolia, or on the moors of Scotland. I wouldn't mind going to Iceland, and hanging out in the hotsprings there.
19. Write about something you now know that you wish you knew earlier in life. How could this knowledge have helped you?
I would have had to do a lot to get me through that first year of University that went so badly, but if me now could have gone back and helped me through it, even if I didn't finish or anything, it would have given me more confidence. Same with driving; I would have to do a lot more than just go back and tell me I needed my license. I knew that, but I needed help to be confident. Sure it would have been nice if I hadn't dated a few different guys, but what difference would that make? Until I figured it all out, I would have just dated someone just as awful. Maybe I just could have gotten me nicer glasses, that would have done a lot for my ego.
20. Write about your greatest fear.
Death. Being old and decrepit. Getting hurt badly. Being poor, being alone, being ill. Being vulnerable.
21. Name one thing you feel brings out the good in people.
Disasters.
22. Describe a time in your life when everything turned out fine, despite the odds.
Well, life in general. My life isn't perfect, but I avoided some of the big pitfalls. I didn't get addicted to drugs, I don't smoke, I didn't get pregnant young and ruin my life. I finished high school, and even managed some post-secondary. These things in themselves are kind of achievements.
23. If you invented a device that could fix one problem you are facing right now, would you use it? What problem would you like to solve? Well, as awful as this sounds, money fixes a lot of things. There are things that are a lot tougher to fix, and I suppose if a device could fix my crippling lack of self-confidence/low self-esteem then yes, of course I would use it.
24. Write about the last time you spoke to your best friend. What did you talk about? I don't even know who would count as my best friend right now. We had some good friends over recently for my birthday, and I don't even recall specifically what we talked about.
25. Describe a time you felt alone.
Feeling alone has often been kind of my default setting for a long time. Right now I don't feel too alone because my husband is home working on our house project, and when he's home more people end up coming over for visits and so on. MOST of the time though, he works away from home, and I am alone a lot. I don't always "feel alone", but it happens a lot. Enough that it's not like I can pinpoint just one bad stretch where I felt alone.
There was one time when I was deathly ill in University, and I lived in the residence. My room mate decided to sleep at her boyfriend's place so she wouldn't get sick, though she checked on me about once a day. I must have just laid in bed for three or four days alone with no phone (pre cell era, and no room phones) or t.v. or anything. I just laid there trying not to die. My room mate eventually called my sister, who came and took me to a doctor, but by then I was already feeling better. In retrospect, that might have been the sickest I'd ever been, and maybe someone should have done something sooner.
26. Name something you found; what was it and where did you find it?
Once when I was kind of the custodian for the apartment building I lived in (free rent, woot!), I found a back pack that contained a wooden recorder (like a flute) and one of those old roller razors (hard to explain). It was hanging on a rail for the stairs in the entryway. I left it there for a day or two, thinking that if it belonged to someone they would find it, but no one claimed it.
I found an arrowhead in the manure pile on our farm a few years ago. We have found quite a few over the years.
I found a very old, blue bottle from medicine or something once, along the river in the small city I lived in for years.
I found a nice silk scarf in a puddle on a street in town a year or so ago. I took it home and washed it, and it looks lovely.
I found a 20 dollar bill once, on the street.
