Oct. 19th, 2019 01:09 amMy sweetie helped me assemble a stall in the barn out of metal panels, in case we need to put a horse in there this winter. According to the blood tests, the pony mare, Ursula, is not likely pregnant, but I want to have somewhere to put her in case the tests are wrong.
I went to see River, and his foot seems to be bothering him a lot less. Looking at the sole of his hoof today, I can see a fissure into his frog that smells pretty bad, and all of this makes me think he had an abscess that drained. When my mare had her abcess this spring, she was very sore all of a sudden, and then a lot less sore all of a sudden too, once the abscess drained. So, I soaked River's hoof in hot water with disinfectant to help drain it and clean it, though I don't have a way to keep it covered in the corral.
I did ride him gently in the arena, walk only, and he didn't seem uncomfortable.
Socializing with others at the barn. Weird situation today, there were police all up and down the gravel roads around the barn, trying to block off a guy who presumably was trying to elude capture (I guess he was in a vehicle?). The police had told everyone to stay at the arena until further notice, but we were there for a couple of hours and no one came back to tell us if it was safe to leave, so we left.
A quiet evening at home. My sweetie and I watched one of our favorite movies of all time, "The Thomas Crown Affair" with Pierce Brosnan and Renee Russo. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
