Nov. 2nd, 2019 01:24 amMy sweetie has made a lot of progress with the floor joists that will become the support for the addition. These floor supports are over the basement, so he's on a ladder to install them. It's kind of surreal, the suspendend floor over an open basement, beside the rest of the house. I helped him yesterday with carrying the joists over to the basement, and helping him put them in place etc. Today he put screws in the metal clips that hold the joists in place, and then covered the otherwise open space with tarps so that the basement is enclosed for now.
He got a call to go back to work for mid-November, which is good in that it's work, and less comfortable because we will have to push to be in a comfortable space when he's away. I'm concerned about how patched together all of our systems are, because I don't have the knack for fixing things as they fail the way he does. Our heat, electricity, and water all need to be at a place where they can run smoothly without relying on a million extention cords and space heaters to stay functional.
Mixed feelings about taking my little goat to the vet yesterday. She was lame for several days. We got a diagnosis, which was that she has a subluxation of the patella, meaning her kneecap pops out. The vet put it back in yesterday, and she's still walking on it comfortably, but the issue is that it will likely keep popping out, causing lameness. My option is to do surgury to deepen the groove in the patella which might work to keep it in place. The next option is amputation of her leg. I'm pretty deeply shocked at the idea of taking her leg off because of a slipping kneecap. I am in a state of dissociation over all of this right now.
A good ride on River today. His breathing is good, his foot is good. He felt forward and energetic and ready to work, which is great. I felt like we had a good ride, with a very good canter, some good collection, and good focus on being round in the circles. It was nice to be around others at the barn today.
Having a quiet evening at home, with the house staying nice and warm.
The images are of the open part of the basement, which we built the floor supports for, and will be the addition soon.
